Hardware Requirements
- A 2GHz Pentium, a 1GHz PowerPC, or equivalent is preferred; a 1GHz Pentium, a 600MHz PowerPC, or equivalent is recommended. The application may run on slower machines, but will be sluggish and may suffer from comms timeouts.
- 256MB of physical RAM is recommended.
- An XGA (1024x768) or higher screen resolution is strongly recommended. Higher screen resolutions, e.g., SXGA (1280x1024) or UXGA (1600x1200) are desirable. The software will likely work with lower resolution screens, but it is not designed or tested for resolutions less than XGA.
- An Ethernet hub may be used for monitoring only. An Ethernet switching hub is strongly recommended and is required if control connections are to be made between drives. The application uses standard TCP/IP networking over Ethernet.
Software Requirements
- drive.web savvy runs on the Java 2 Standard Edition version 1.4.1 or later. This allows it to run on a large number of platforms, including Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, Solaris, etc. (note that Windows 95 is not supported).
- Several distributions are supported including Java Web Start, and packaged applications are available for both Windows and Mac OS X.
Notes
- A user manual is available within the application - choose 'Show User Manual' from the 'Help' menu.
- When launching via Java Web Start, if you get a message complaining about an unexpected MIME type, it probably means that you are using a proxy server or firewall that is not configured properly for the application/x-java-jnlp-file file type. There are three possible solutions:
- bypass the proxy server and connect directly to the driveweb site
- ask your system administrator to add the MIME type to the proxy server
- download a conventional application or a JAR file and launch conventionally
